The pattern is available as a downloadable PDF, making it easy to get started on your next sewing adventure.

Let’s break down what makes this bag a must-sew for every bag lover out there.

The Magic of a 5-in-1 Design

Why settle for just one bag when you can have five? This pattern is a game-changer.

The Maggie Switch is a Convertible Tote to Backpack and is designed to function as a two-strap tote, a backpack, a small-handle tote, a single-strap tote, or a crossbody bag. It’s like having a wardrobe of bags rolled into one, perfect for any occasion or need.

This versatility is thanks to the ingenious magnetic strap system that allows you to switch up the style in seconds. And don’t worry if you’re not a fan of magnets—the Studio 7t7 tutorial offers alternative options like snap poppers or Velcro, so you can choose what works best for you

A Bag That’s Big on Features

This isn’t just any bag. It’s packed with thoughtful features that make it as functional as it is fashionable. Here’s what you can expect:

  •  Slip Pocket with Magnetic Snap: Keep your essentials easily accessible.

  • Water Bottle Holders: Two dedicated pockets ensure you stay hydrated on the go.

  • Trolley Pocket: Perfect for travel, this pocket slips over your suitcase handle for easy carrying.

  • Secure Zipper Pocket: Keep your valuables safe with a hidden pocket on the back.

  • Interior Pockets: Plenty of room for a laptop, pens, and glasses.

Whether you’re heading to work, school, or on a weekend getaway, this bag has got you covered.

Material Matters

Choosing the right materials is key to making your bag both durable and stylish. For this pattern, we recommend a mix of cotton canvas and faux leather or vinyl for the exterior, while waterproof canvas makes an excellent choice for the lining.

This combination not only looks great but also ensures your bag can withstand daily wear and tear – added bonus little or no interfacing (depending on which you go for!)

For those looking to add a bit more structure to their bag, stabilisers are suggested for certain parts. These will give your bag that professional, high-quality finish that every sewing enthusiast strives for.

Customisable Straps for Every Style

One of the standout features of this pattern is its customisable straps.

Whether you prefer them to be permanently attached or removable, the pattern guides you through the process with ease.

Using rivets and magnetic clasps, you can secure the straps in place, or switch to lobster clasps if you prefer more flexibility. The choice is yours!

Tools and Tips to Make Your Life Easier

Don’t let the complexity of this bag intimidate you. Our video tutorial is packed with tips to help you manage thicker materials and bulk, ensuring a smooth sewing process.

We recommend a walking foot, a Microtex needle, and the regular essential sewing machine tools. With these in hand, you’ll be well-equipped to tackle this project.

Like mentioned earlier on this blog, this bag looks complicated but is actually not as tricky as it looks. Its one of those projects that takes a little time due to all the features but when you look at the shape its effectively a rectangular tote bag!

Customisation Options Galore!

What’s great about this pattern is how adaptable it is to your personal style and skill level.

Whether you’re a newere to bag making beginner looking for a new project or an experienced sewer wanting to challenge yourself, the tutorial offers variations in construction difficulty, fabric choices, and attachment methods. You can truly make this bag your own!

Take your time and you will have a bag that you are not only super proud to have made, but it also very practical too!

How do the straps stay attached?

One question that was asked a lot when this pattern came out in The 7t7 Club, was how the straps stay strong and can they come undone?

The straps for this bag are attached using magnetic clasps that are riveted in place. Many people think that the magnets will easily come undone.

As long as the force on the strap is exerted from lifting (as in how you will wear the bag!) the magnet will stay closed and strong too! However if you catch it it could come undone.

I have found the straps on this bag to be very strong but you do have the option to sew down the straps if you would prefer to – this is explained in detail in the video.
